My pager was very important to me in high school, though in retrospect, I can’t fathom what was so pressing that I would need one. Since then, the gifted minds of the universe have pushed the limits of communication, enabling the common to participate in activities once possible only in science fiction movies.
So it’s easier for all of us to talk to each other.
And I never pick up my cell phone. I live in a world dictated by the written word, more in common with the electro-mechanical teletype machines used during WWII than the telecommunicators used by William Shatner when on leave from the Enterprise.
I have been pondering these circumstances in the recent past. And it now seems a movie will be made about it:
