On My Own

Monday nights at Hyde lounge is home to an 80’s party that I dj at weekly. It is a night I enjoy working, since I do not have to expel the usual shitty pop records from the last 5 years. Instead, I play shitty pop records from the 80’s.

As the party is promoted as an 80’s party, it’s expected that the musical carte du jour would be exactly that: 80’s music. Unfortunately, I still have to play for the lowest common denominator who’s majority falls in the 18-22 age range, which means that most were not even a consideration in 1989. That being said, the following scenario was not a surprise to me.

•• Girl 1 ••
“Let’s leave

•• Girl 2 ••
“Yea. I haven’t heard a single song I know”

Girls flee the scene at go get their cars from valet. Bobby Brown “My perogative” gets played.

•• Girl 1 ••
“UGH… Of course we leave when he plays Britney”

My favorite ditty by Robert Barisford Brown, when the gumby was on point.

Props to George Murphy aka Clarence for enlightening me of tonight’s calamities, and Nick Leo for being Nick Leo.
